Benjamin "Mako" Hill Experience and Qualifications

Benjamin "Mako" Hill is an experienced Free Software developer and consultant with expertise and qualifications in the following areas:

Project Management:

• Author of the Free Software Project Management HOWTO: the canonical document on FOSS project management distributed by The Linux Documentation Project since 2000;
• Designed, developed, and managed several volunteer and community based applications and participated in dozens more in non-leadership roles;
• Worked as Software Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, and Chief Technical Officer in organizations and businesses developing and designing Free and Open Source Software.

Licensing:

• Completed an academic degree in technology studies and legal studies with an emphasis on copyright and Free and Open Source Software licensing;
• Lead Debian representative on a series of conversations between FSF and Debian in regards to the GNU Free Documentation License.

Debian:

• Debian developer for 5 years and GNU/Linux user for over 11 years;
• Delegate of the Debian Project Leader in at least three ongoing leadership and managerial roles within the Debian project.

FOSS in NGOs and Non-Profit Organizations:

• Founder and a lead developer of Debian-Nonprofit (Debian-NP): a Custom Debian Distribution geared specifically to the needs of non-profits;
• Currently a member of the board of directors of Software in the Public Interest, Inc. the non-profit organization that supports Debian and a handful of other projects.
